Knowledge Management, Supply Chain Management and Innovation in construction.
Industry Experience
Prior to joining the University in January 2003, I gained approx 30 years of
industrial experience within the Construction Industry both at home and abroad.
My career started as a management student with a leading UK contractor, I gained
experience in site engineering, quantity surveying and contract planning.
My management career progressed from sub agent to project manger/ construction manger
on a variety of industrial, housing, commercial and retail projects,
ranging in value from £1m to £120m.
Research Title
Knowledge sharing in construction supply chains and its impact on innovation
Research Objectives

To investigate and document the construction industry’s perception of knowledge management and innovation in a supply chain perspective.

To examine the extent to which knowledge management impacts on process and product innovations.

To document the factors that promote and inhibit the impact of KM on innovations

To investigate and document the extent (and mechanisms employed) to which the impact of knowledge sharing on innovation is measured, with a view of documenting best practise and lessons learnt.

Develop a set of training materials (for the purposes of CPD) and for university curriculum, to improve awareness on how KM can contribute to construction innovations.

Case study, questionnaires and semi-structured interviews
Benefits/Expected Outcomes of the Research
Provide data to formulate training materials, which will increase awareness of Knowledge Sharing within the construction industry. Provide up to date information to be added to both undergraduate and post graduate curriculum.
